The Bulwell Connectors are a group of local residents and arts champions. Together they scheme, plot and plan to bring more art to Bulwell… and enjoy getting creative and going on trips to explore the arts scene in Nottingham and further afield. On 30th July 2018, a number of Connectors went along to meet Chris Campbell at his studio in Mattersey, near Doncaster. Chris is the artist and fabricator who designed and engineered the new Archway to Bulwell Market and it was fascinating to see for ourselves all the heavy machinery and skill involved in making our drawings on paper into reality!
We really appreciated the time to sit with Chris in his studio and discuss another commission, new gates at Banks Yard and Tudor Court – a shopping arcade just off Bulwell Market that is in need of some tender loving care. Chris had worked on a sketch provided by Phil Hearn, a local artist and Bulwell Connector, to help us imagine the various techniques that could be employed to make his design into the finished article. A discussion with businesses a few days later, with the support of Cllr Jackie Morris, and we’re all encouraged that the new gates (which have been a long time in discussion!) will soon be with us and in situ!
Here are a few photos from our trip! Many thanks to all the Connectors for their support of each other, enthusiasm and eternal optimism! You are wonderful!
