Broadway is working with the BFI’s Film Academy Network as a regional delivery partner for the seventh time and is offering 20 young people aged 16-19 with a passion for film the opportunity to be part of the UK’s future film industry.
Over the twelve-week programme, participants from across the region are supported by industry professionals and taught practical filmmaking skills as well as given the unique opportunity to meet professional writers, directors and producers working in film today.
For the past six years, Broadway’s BFI Film Academy has supported the next generation of East Midlands’ filmmaking talent: Academy alumni have gone on to work in the industry, study film at university, and gain mentorship through BAFTA.
Delivering over 100 hours of taught activity, the programme offers hands-on training for a variety of film industry roles, from writing and directing through to production, sound design, editing and camera, and provides learning around film history and cinematic storytelling to inspire an appreciation of film culture in the round. Participants will also produce one of three short films as part of a team during the programme, which will be screened to a public audience at Broadway Cinema.
“Taking part in the BFI Film Academy was genuinely one of the best choices I could have made as a young aspiring filmmaker. I’ll be working as a Camera Trainee at Pinewood Studios on a huge feature film production. I am overjoyed about it all and cannot wait to start! Broadway’s BFI Film Academy has given me a massive boost in my career as a filmmaker and has provided me with astonishing opportunities.”
Ravi, BFI Film Academy
With no previous experience necessary, Broadway’s BFI Film Academy is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the East Midlands to kickstart a career in the film industry. The cost of taking part in the programme is £25.00, with full bursaries available to applicants who are unable to meet the cost.
Broadway’s BFI Film Academy 7 will run from Tuesday 30 October 2018 to Tuesday 29 January 2019 and will be held at Broadway over evenings and weekends.
The opportunity is open to all young people aged 16-19 from across the East Midlands.
Interested applicants have the opportunity to meet Academy alumni and staff to hear a little more about what’s involved at one of three information sessions – these will take place at Broadway from 12pm-1pm on Saturday 25 August, Saturday 15 September and Saturday 29 September.
