Bulwell Arts Festival is huge this year – there’s so much going on throughout the week-long festival, that some of the projects are spilling out, either side of the Arts week (7th – 14th July!)
One such project is the Bulwell Scrapbook Stories project, which is a collaboration between the Bulwell Connectors, Bulwell Arts Festival and local artists Rachel Scanlon and Gary Davies.
Rachel has been busy running creative workshops in 7 primary schools in Bulwell gathering drawings, paintings, collages and words to incorporate into a giant Bulwell Scrapbook – ‘Book of Ours’ – which will be on display in Bulwell Riverside library during the festival.
As part of this project, we are encouraging anyone and everyone to send in their own creation – a scrapbook/sketchbook/handmade journal filled with words and pictures to fill our own Bookshelf, kindly donated by the Library. This is an ongoing project and there’s no cut off date – we hope the shelf will grow over the years as new generations add their scrapbooks to the shelf. However, if you’d like your book to be on display in time for Bulwell Arts Festival 2018, we’d ask that you hand it in or send it to Bulwell Library staff at the Ask It desk (Bulwell Riverside Library, Main St, Bulwell, Nottingham, NG6 8QJ) by 4th July!
Come along to our first drop in workshop on Monday 14th May at Riverside Library to get some inspiration, have a go with a variety of materials and meet Artist Rachel Scanlon who will tell you more about the project. There’s no right or wrong way to do it! No need to book – just come along between 12noon-3pm.
We’d love to hear whether you can run your own scrapbook-making workshops with your own groups in different settings – we’d love faith groups, care homes, independent living schemes, youth clubs and as many folk as possible to get involved. Let us know if you need any help to set this up – call Cathy on 07808 165209 or Nicola on 07906 638349.
