Last year we held an event as part of the national debate into the Civic Role of Arts Organisations, being led by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. There are lots of resources, case studies and articles to delve into on their website: https://civicroleartsinquiry.gulbenkian.org.uk

“Case studies show that arts organisations with a civic role share common features. They are dedicated to artistic excellence and fostering individual creativity. They have inspiring leaders, committed to a civic role. People and local communities are central to their practice. Place matters. Developing relationships and strong connections are central to their approach. They seek to integrate their work with communities into their artistic programmes.” (Rethinking Relationships, Inquiry into the Civic Role of Arts Organisations)
We hope to demonstrate through our partnership work this year, how arts organisations in Nottingham are engaging with local communities in Nottingham North. Our purpose is to ensure people living in the Nottingham North constituency (Aspley, Basford, Bestwood, Bilborough, Bulwell and Bulwell Forest) are well connected to the vibrant cultural scene of the city – while supporting and nurturing creative confidence locally.
There are many ways to get involved in our work and all the wonderful creative activity in Nottingham North this year, from joining the programming team for Bilborough Arts Festival (Sat 30 June – Fri 6 July 2018); contributing to Bulwell Arts Festival (7th July – 14th July); joining the Bulwell Connectors on trips and developing an arts programme for Bulwell Riverside; or getting involved in a community theatre project, Three Doors Down, in Aspley. If you are an individual looking for support for your own creative business, remember to enrol on The Big House programme for an array of one-to-one mentoring, training and networking opportunities! Contact email@example.com for an initial meeting.
