Act4Change is a social action project, funded by The Mighty Creatives, empowering young people to plan a creative project that has a positive impact on a local social issue.
Since mid-August 2016, we have been meeting weekly with young people from Aspley and Bilborough to plan a project, with our £1000 seed funding. With the support of the wonderful Bilborough Fest team and Josh Sims, a project that would raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol has taken shape in the form of two songwriting workshops with the highly recommended singer and songwriter Nina Smith; and T-shirt design workshops led by screenprinter Anthony Godfrey. These are taking place at ACTC, Aspley Community and Training Centre which has a Community Theatre space which is currently underused. This project is also raising awareness of this great local resource for creative projects and giving the group the impetus to raise funds for regular professional artist-led workshops.
The group are writing their own song, telling a story of two women and their different experiences of alcohol, and they will record it and develop a video that can be shared with local schools in assemblies, classrooms and online.
Their new group, Create4Change, plans to make use of ACTC for workshops throughout the year, offering creative opportunities for young people to express themselves and develop their creative confidence!
